Miracles at the birth of rasoolullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam)

Not only did the angels, trees and the mountains rejoice at the birth of Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) but the entire universe rejoiced. [Ahsanul Muwa’iz, pg 14]

BEFORE BIRTH: Hazrat Bibi Amina (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha), the blessed mother of the Beloved Rasool (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) during her pregnancy informed the household members that she was often being visited by angels and previous Prophets who announced that the child in her womb was Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), the Promised Prophet, through whom the world would be blessed. They thought that perhaps some evil spirits might be appearing to Hazrat Bibi Amina (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha), so just a few days before the birth, they chained her up so that the handcuffs and the chains made of iron would act as charms to ward off the evil spirits.

That night an aged man came to her. He touched the iron of the handcuffs and chains and they broke and fell away from her neck and hands. She asked him who he was and he replied, “Ibrahim Khaleelullah” i.e. Hazrat Ibrahim (Alaihis Salaam). Hazrat Ibrahim (Alaihis Salaam) explained that the reason for the visit of angels and earlier Prophets to her were due to the fact that she was to be the mother of the Promised Prophet.

AT BIRTH: Hazrat Bibi Amina (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha) stated that as soon as the labour pains of child birth started, an angel came and asked her to drink from a cup in his hand. This drink was whiter than milk and sweeter than honey. As soon as she drank this heavenly drink her pain disappeared and all fear left her. [Ajaibal Kassas, vol 2, pg 43-44]

Hazrat Bibi Amina (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha) then saw the gates of heaven open. The angels came down for the adoration of the new baby. Three angels went towards the Kaabah. One angel placed a flag over the Kaabah, another went to the East and placed a flag and the third went to the West and placed a flag. A light then spread out lighting up the universe. In this miraculous light, Hazrat Bibi Amina (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha) stated that she could see distinctly the palaces of Palestine and Syria. Subhaanallah! [Ahsanul Muwa’iz, pg 18-19]

Then four ladies appeared miraculously before Hazrat Bibi Amina (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha) to attend to the birth of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). The first, who was very tall, said she was Hazrat Bibi Hawa (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha), the mother of mankind. The second was Hazrat Bibi Sarah (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha), the mother of Hazrat Ishaaq (Alaihis Salaam), the third was Hazrat Bibi Hajira (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha), the mother of Hazrat Ismail (Alaihis Salaam) and she came with Otto, a sweet-smelling essence from heaven to express her love for this child. The fourth person was Hazrat Asiya (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha), the wife of Fir’oun. She was the Queen of Egypt who brought up Hazrat Moosa (Alaihis Salaam) from a little child when he was found floating in the basket on the river and she was the first person in Fir’oun’s court to believe in Allah.

In the hands of these four great nurses was the Mercy unto all the worlds, Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) born, with his foreskin already circumcised miraculously, his navel already separated miraculously from his mother’s body, and his body miraculously pure and clean without any kind of blood or impurity. [Tafrihul Askia Fil Ahwalul Ambia, vol 2, pg 10-13]

AFTER BIRTH: Immediately upon birth, the child did prostration to Allah Ta’ala and with his right index finger raised, miraculously recited the following words in a clear voice:

“Ash hadu al la Ilaaha Illallaahu Ana Muhammadur Rasoolullah. Ya Rabbi Habli Ummati.”

“I give evidence that none is worthy of worship except Allah, I am Muhammad the Messenger of

Allah. O Sustainer (of the Universe) bless me (and) those who follow me.”

At once Allah Ta’ala spoke to His Beloved and replied (translation from Arabic):

“I have blessed you (O Muhammad) and those who follow you. O Angels, be ye witnesses of the fact

that when he has not forgotten his followers upon his birth, then how can he forget them on the Day

of Judgment.” [Ajaibul Kassas, vol 2, pg 44]

Three angels then appeared. One of them took a seal and marked the right shoulder and handed over the child to Hazrat Bibi Amina (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha). A voice then announced, “Ruler of the whole universe, the universe is your slave.” When Hazrat Bibi Amina (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha) looked upon the face of the blessed child it was shining like a full moon and perfume of the finest Otto was coming from his blessed body.

A white cloud then appeared inexplicably and covered him and took him away saying, “O animals on the face of the earth, fishes in the seas, and the trees, remember the name of this child (Muhammad) and recognise him well. He has combined in himself all the wonderful and good qualities that were in all the Prophets that have come on earth from Hazrat Adam to Hazrat Esa (Alaihimus Salaam)” When the cloud returned and replaced the child, he was clothed in green silk.

Hazrat Abdul Mutallib (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh), the grandfather of Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) was at the Ka’bah at this early hour. All of a sudden the walls of the Ka’bah bowed miraculously before Maqaame-Ibrahim, where Hazrat Ibrahim (Alaihis Salaam) had stood and prayed during the building of the Ka’bah. Then the Ka’bah spoke as follows (translation from Arabic):

“Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, He is the Sustainer of Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), who will purify the Ka’bah from idols and idolatry and restore it to the House of Allah. Amina (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha) has just given birth to this child.”

Hazrat Abdul Mutallib (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) hearing the walls of the Ka’bah talk and seeing all the idols fall, ran home to verify if the blessed child had been born. He did not find Noor-e-Muhammadi shining from Hazrat Bibi Amina’s (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha) forehead. He thus knew the child had been born so he asked Hazrat Bibi Amina (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha) to please show him his grandchild. Hazrat Bibi Amina (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha) replied that Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) was in the next room but nobody could see him for three days as the angels and the dwellers of heaven were paying homage to him. Hazrat Abdul Mutallib (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh)wanted to tell the Makkans about the miraculous bowing of the Ka’bah and the adoration of the blessed child by the inhabitants of heaven but was strangely dumbstruck for three days and could not tell anyone. [Tafrihul Askia Fil Ahwalul Ambia, vol 2, pg 14]

INCIDENTS IN MAKKAH: There were a number of people at the Ka’bah at the time of the birth of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) when all the idols fell prostrate. Some of the people picked up and erected the fallen idols but the idols again fell down on their faces. They propped them up again but the idols collapsed for the third time. One of the persons present, Osman bin Habiras said to his companions that something very serious must have happened, causing the idols to fall repeatedly. In reply, the idols miraculously spoke in Arabic and said the following:

“We idols (all over the earth) have fallen down to bow to a child just born, whose light has lit the universe from East to West. All idols all over the world have fallen (at the exact time of the birth of the Promised Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), with a view to honour this child! Emperors of the earth have been frightened tonight. The Emperor of Persia was grief-stricken and the (Magi) fire quenched. Stopped forever is the heavenly information by which the jinns used to foretell. O Children of Quassa leave aside idolatry and come towards Islam, so that ye may become owners of the garden of eternal bliss.” [Ahsanul Muwa’iz, pg 25]

These idols remained prostrate on the floor for a full twenty-four hours. Any effort to pick them up and to erect them throughout the world was unsuccessful. It was only the next day that they were refitted and this was witnessed by thousands of people worldwide.

After three days Hazrat Abdul Mutallib (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) took his grandchild to the Ka’bah and named him Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). As soon as the child was taken to the Ka’bah for the naming ceremony, the four corners of the walls of the Ka’bah spoke and declared:

“There is none worthy of worship except Allah and Muhammad is the Seal of Prophethood.”

INCIDENTS IN PERSIA: At the date and time of the birth of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) the following miracles took place in Persia:

1) The fire in the Magi temple of the Zoroastrians which had been alight for thousands of years became quenched for the first time in history.

2) Fourteen towers of the royal palace of Nausherwan, the Emperor of Persia, broke and fell.

3) The famous stone, on which the fabulous throne of Persia was kept, cracked.

4) The deep and fast flowing river Sawa in the Persian Empire dried up instantly.

5) The river Samawa in the Persian Empire which had been dry for the past thousand years or more started flowing immediately.

6) The tower of the palace on the River Tigris, which was built so strongly that nothing could damage it for hundreds of years, broke and fell to the amazement of all, without any logical reason.

INCIDENTS IN YEMEN: There lived in Yemen a man named Amer, who was praying with his wife before an idol. At the time of the birth of Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) he saw a Noor (light) spreading light from East to West and from North to South. In this light he saw the gates of heaven open. Many angels descended, prostrating themselves. In this light he saw the trees and the hills also prostrating themselves. Then the idol in front of him fell on its face. As he went to lift the idol it said:

“The Promised Prophet, whose coming was being looked forward to for hundreds of years, has just been born. The trees and the stones shall speak with him. For his sake the moon will split into two.”

So shocked was Amer that he asked his wife if she also heard what he did. She answered, “Yes, but please ask the idol where this child has been born and what is his name.” The idol informed them that the child’s name was Muhammad Mustafa (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), he had been born in Makkah and that it would be he, through whom the whole universe would be blessed. Amer had a deformed daughter who was also seeing and hearing all that was taking place. Consequently, she prayed aloud, “O Allah, in the name of Muhammad who has just been born, I pray that I be cured.” At once she was completely cured. Subhaanallah!

So impressed were they all at this miracle performed by merely taking his name, the family journeyed to Makkah to pay homage to this blessed child. They traced Hazrat Abdul Mutallib (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) and asked him to show them this amazing child named Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasllam). On seeing the marvellous face of Muhammad Mustafa (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) Amer collapsed out of joy and died on the spot. [Ahsanul Muwa’iz, pg 23-24]

INCIDENTS IN ROME: The Roman Emperor Justin II was frightened on the date of the birth of Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). When he went into the Royal Chapel to pray on that morning he was surprised to find that the statue of Jesus Christ had very strangely come out of its firm base and was lying on the ground. It reminded him of the foretelling of Hazrat Esa (Alaihis Salaam) that on the day of the birth of the Promised Prophet all idols all over the world would fall down. As he lifted up the statue it again fell on its face on the floor and declared:

“A child has been born with his foreskin circumcised miraculously. This child would be the greatest personage to come on earth and he would be from amongst the circumcised people. This baby was not from a Jewish family but from the brethren of the Jews. He would be a destroyer of idols and would lay the foundation for the destruction of idolatry. Those who would not listen to his teachings would be losers in this earth and in the hereafter. He would be the light of learning, which would be the cause of filling the earth with wisdom and knowledge and removing the darkness of ignorance.”

Subhaanallah! May Allah Ta’ala grant us all the true love and respect for Nabi-e-Karim (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and may we be blessed with the opportunity of spending the 12th of Rabiul Awwal in front of the Rauza-e-Mubarak of our Beloved Master Muhammad Mustafa (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), Ameen.

At the Grave of Allahs Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam)

At the Grave of Allahs Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam)

Words of Shaikh Abdul-Aziz Ibn Baz (rahimahullah)

At the Grave of Allahs Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam)

Raising voices near the grave of Allahs Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) or standing near it for long hours is in contradiction to what is prescribed. Allah, the Glorified, has forbade the Ummah from raising their voices above the voice of Allahs Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) and from speaking aloud and He has encouraged lowering the voices in His Saying, O you who believe! Do not put (yourselves) forward before Allah and His Messenger, and fear Allah. Verily! Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing. O you who believe! Raise not your voices above the voice of the Prophet, nor speak aloud to him in talk as you speak aloud to one another, lest your deeds may be rendered fruitless while you perceive not. Verily! Those who lower their voices in the presence of Allah's Messenger, they are the ones whose hearts Allah has tested for piety. For them is forgiveness and a great reward. [Soorah al-Hujurat (49): 1-3] *11
----------------------------------------END -------------------------------------

Translator's Notes
*11: Imam Ibn Katheer (rahimahullah) writes in the tafseer of this verse, 'This (verse) contains another kind of favorable behavior. Allah, the Exalted, is teaching the believers that they should not raise their voices above the voice of the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam). Al-Bukharee recorded that Ibn Abi Mulaykh said, 'the two righteous ones, Abu Bakr and Umar, almost earned destruction when they raised their voices before the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) who was receiving the delegation of Bani Tamim. One of them recommended al-Aqra ibn Habis, the member of the Banu Mujashi, while the other recommended another manAbu Bakr said to Umar, 'You only wanted to contradict me,' while Umar said, 'I did not intend to contradict you.' Their voices then became loud, thereupon Allah, the Exalted, sent down this verse,... Abdullah Ibn az-Zubayr said, 'After that, Umar's voice was so low that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) had to ask him to repeat what he said so that he could understand what he was saying to him.' Imam Ahmad recorded that Anas Ibn Malik (radhi allahu anhu) said, 'When this verse was revealed, ... Thabit Ibn Qais, whose voice was loud, said, 'I was the one who raised his voice above the voice of Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam). I am among the dwellers of the Fire. My good deeds have been done in vain.' He remained in his house feeling distressed, and the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) noticed his absence. So some men went to Thabit and said to him, 'The Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) noticed your absence. What is the matter with you?' Thabit said, 'I used to raise my voice above the voice of the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) and speak loudly in front of him. My deeds have been rendered useless and I am among the people of the Fire.' They went to the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) and told him what Thabit said and the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said, 'Nay, he is among the dwellers of Paradise.'' [Musnad Ahmad (3): 137]

Allah prohibited speaking to the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) in a loud voice, just as one speaks loudly to another in a way that offends him. Instead, they were required to speak to him in terms of respect, honor and calmness. This is why Allah, the Exalted and Most Honored, said, 'nor speak aloud to him in talk as you speak aloud to one another,' just as He said in another verse, 'Make not the calling of the Messenger (Muhammad) among you as your calling of one another' [Soorah an-Nur (24): 63]

Allah's statement, 'lest your deeds may be rendered fruitless while you perceive not' means, 'we ordered you to refrain from raising your voices to the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam), so that he will not get angry with you, because in doing so, you will anger Allah.' The good deeds of the one who caused the Prophet's anger will become useless without him even knowing. In the Saheeh, there is a Saheeh Hadeeth that states, 'Verily, a man might utters a word that pleases Allah, the Exalted, even though he does not recognize the significance of his word, and on the its account Paradise is written for him. Verily, a man might utter a word carelessly that angers Allah, the Exalted, and on its account, he is cast in the Fire farther than the distance between the heavens and earth.' Allah then ordains lowering one's voice before the Messenger and encourages, directs and recommends this better behavior, 'Verily! Those who lower their voices in the presence of Allah's Messenger, they are the ones whose hearts Allah has tested for piety. For them is forgiveness and a great reward.' [Soorah al-Hujurat (49): 3] [end quote]

Thus, it was forbidden to raise one's voice in the presence of Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam), while he was living, and it is forbidden to raise one's voice at the grave of Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) in Medina, now that he is dead. It has been narrated that the great Khalifah, Umar ibn Khattab (radhi allahu anhu) once heard two men raising their voice in the Prophet's mosque, so he asked them, Do you realize where you are? But before they could answer, he asked them, Where are you both from? They replied they were from Taaif. He then said to them, If you had said that you were from Medina, I would have given you both severe lashes for raising your voices in the mosque of Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam). [Saheeh al-Bukharee]

Smile of Habibullah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam

"A Smile"

His laughter was a smile.

His steps hallowed the dust.

His saliva sweetened the world of waters.

His gestures reflected heavenly hierarchy.

His voice a mellifluous melody.

His perspiration; beads of lustrous pearls.

His breath a charismatic breeze.

His glance; impassioned arrows piercing souls.

His hair a shimmering aura rippling the skies.

His silence a captivating rhapsody.

His sanctuary a haven of serenity.

His laugh was but a smile.

Radiating till this day.

I have not seen anything more beautiful than the Messenger of Allah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam. It was as if the sun was shining in his face. When he laughed, it reflected from the wall. His laughter was a smile….his companions smiled rather than laughed in his presence out of respect for him and to imitate him. When he was happy he looked downwards. Generally his laughter consisted of a smile and he showed his teeth which were as white as hailstones. I did not see anyone who smiled more than Rasulullah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam. The laugh of Sayyidina Rasulullah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam was but a smile. A collection from two indispensable books: Muhammad, Messenger of Allah and Shamaa’il Tirmidhi.

Insha’Allah by reading the numerous Ahadith on the occasions when our beloved Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam smiled we too can smile and recall the various feelings that made him SallAllahu alaihi wasallam smile, whether due to happiness, delight, astonishment, wonder or any other reason.

The Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam was on a journey with his slave Anjashah driving the camels carrying his women RadhiAllahu anhunna, Anjashah began chanting a song to them to go faster, when the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam smiled and said to him: "O Anjashah, wayhak! (may Allah be merciful to you) Be gentle with the glass vessels." (The women. Some narrations translate glass as crystal)

Once the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam was sitting while two sheep were fighting each other with their horns and one of them butted the other and overcame it. Thereupon the Messenger SallAllahu alaihi wasallam smiled and was asked: "What is it that you are smiling for, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "I am astonished at the case of this defeated sheep. By Whom in Whose hand my soul is, the other sheep will be punished for butting it on the Day of Resurrection."

Abdullah ibn Mas’ood RadhiAllahu anhu said, “I know the person who will come out last from the fire. He will be such a man who will crawl out (due to the severity of the punishment of Jahannam he will not be able to walk). He will then be ordered to enter Jannah. He will go there and find that all the places therein are occupied. He will return and say, ‘O Allah the people have taken all the places.’ It will be said to him. ‘Do you remember the places in the world?’ He will reply, ‘O my creator, I remember well.’ It will be commanded to him. ‘Make your wish in whichever way your heart desires.’ He will put forward his desires. It shall be commanded. All your desires are fulfilled and in addition ten times the size of the world is granted to you. He will reply, ‘Are you jesting with me O my Allah, and You are the King of the Kings? (There is no place in Jannah and You are granting me a place ten times greater than the world).” Ibn Mas’ood RadhiAllahu anhu said, “I saw Rasulullah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam smile till his mubarak teeth showed, when he related this portion of the man’s reply.”

Abu Dhar RadhiAllahu anhu says, Rasulullah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam said, “I know that person well who will enter Jannah first and also that person who will be the last one to be taken out of Jahannam. On the Day of Qiyaamah a person will be brought forward to the court of Almighty Allah. It shall be commanded that all the minor sins of that person be put forward to him and the major sins be concealed. When the minor sins are disclosed to that person, he will accept that he had committed them, as there will be no room for refuting them. (He will begin to tremble and say in his heart that these are only the minor sins, what will happen when the major sins are exposed.) During this happening it shall be commanded that for every sin of that person he be given the Ajr (thawaab-reward) of a good deed. Upon hearing this person himself will say I still have many sins left to account for, that are not seen here.”
Abu Dhar RadhiAllahu anhu says, Rasulullah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam while narrating the words of that person began smiling until his mubarak teeth began to show.” (The reason being that the person himself disclosed the very sins he was frightened of.)

Jabir ibn Abdullah RadhiAllahu anhu says, “After I accepted Islam, Rasulullah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam never prohibited me from attending his assemblies. Whenever he saw me he smiled.”

Narrated Abu Hurairah RadhiAllahu anhu: Once the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam was narrating a story, while a Bedouin was sitting with him. "One of the inhabitants of Paradise will ask Allah to allow him to cultivate the land. Allah will ask him, ‘Are you not living in the pleasures you like?’ He will say, ‘Yes, but I like to cultivate the land.’ " The Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam added, "When the man will be permitted he will sow the seeds and the plants will grow up and get ripe, ready for reaping and so on till it will be as huge as mountains within a wink. Allah will then say to him, ‘O son of Adam! Take here you are, gather the yield; nothing satisfies you.’ "On that, the Bedouin said, "The man must be either from Quraysh, a Muhajiroon or an Ansari, for they are farmers, whereas we are not farmers." The Prophet smiled at this.

Narrated ‘Amr bin ‘Auf Al-Ansari RadhiAllahu anhu: Allah’s Apostle SallAllahu alaihi wasallam sent Abu ‘Ubaida bin Al-Jarreh RadhiAllahu anhu to Bahrain to collect the Jizya. Allah’s Apostle SallAllahu alaihi wasallam had established peace with the people of Bahrain and appointed Al-’Ala’ bin Al-Hadrami RadhiAllahu anhu as their governor. When Abu ‘Ubaida RadhiAllahu anhu came from Bahrain with the money, the Ansar heard of his arrival which coincided with the time of the morning prayer. When the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam finished the prayer, the Ansar approached him, and he looked at them and smiled on seeing them and said, "I feel that you have heard that Abu ‘Ubaida RadhiAllahu anhu has brought something?" They said, "Yes, O Allah’s Apostle’ He said, "Rejoice and hope for what will please you! By Allah, I am not afraid of your poverty but I am afraid that you will lead a life of luxury as past nations did, whereupon you will compete with each other for it, as they competed for it, and it will destroy you as it destroyed them."

Narrated ‘Abdullah RadhiAllahu anhu: A (Jewish) Rabbi came to Allah’s Apostle SallAllahu alaihi wasallam and he said, "O Muhammad! We learn that Allah will put all the heavens on one finger, and the earths on one finger, and the trees on one finger, and the water and the dust on one finger, and all the other created beings on one finger. Then He will say, ‘I am the King.’ Thereupon the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam smiled so that his pre-molar teeth became visible, and that was the confirmation of the Rabbi. Then Allah’s Apostle SallAllahu alaihi wasallam recited: ‘No just estimate have they made of Allah such as due to Him.’ (39.67)

Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri RadhiAllahu anhu: The Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam said, "The planet earth will be a bread on the Day of Resurrection, and The Resistible, Allah will topple turn it with His Hand like anyone of you topple turns a bread with his hands while preparing the bread for a journey, and that bread will be the entertainment for the people of Paradise." A man from the Jews came to the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam and said, "May The Beneficent, Allah bless you, O Abul Qasim! Shall I tell you of the entertainment of the people of Paradise on the Day of Resurrection?" The Prophet said, "Yes." The Jew said, "The earth will be a bread," as the Prophet had said. Thereupon the Prophet looked at us and smiled till his premolar tooth became visible. Then the Jew further said, "Shall I tell you of the udm (additional food taken with bread) they will have with the bread?" He added, "That will be Balam and Nun." The people asked, "What is that?" He said, "It is an ox and a fish, and seventy thousand people will eat of the caudate lobe (i.e. extra lobe) of their livers."

Peace and blessings upon you O my master. O Messenger of Allah, O Prophet of Allah, O master of the messengers. O seal of prophets, O favour of Allah upon the believers.
Peace and blessings upon you O protection of the world and its people, O refuge of the nation, the one whom we pin our hopes, O mercy of humanity.
Peace and blessings upon you O kind, merciful, smiling affectionate Prophet, O you with whom needy and troubled people seek a means to Allah the Exalted. Here I am O Messenger of Allah, seeking help and sanctuary in the vastness of your magnanimity, seeking a hint of your smile as I behold your Dome of Felicity.

Every good deed of a Muslim is charity; meeting your brother with a smiling face is one of the good deeds. Such a bounteous Hadith from our beloved SallAllahu alaihi wasallam.

His laugh was but a smile.

Radiating till this day.

All good is from Allah Ta’ala whereas mistakes are from this humble speck. May Allah Ta’ala Bless all readers, bringing you all closer to Him and His Rasul SallAllahu alaihi wasallam. Ameen.

Flight to Light Habibullah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam

FLIGHT TO LIGHT

1428 years ago our Noble Nabi SallAllahu alaihi wassalam and his faithful companion Abu Bakr as-Siddiq RadhiAllahu anhu, were traversing such inhospitable mountain ranges and huge expanses of formidable desert on this historic "flight to light." Fleeing persecutors, fleeing the darkness of ignorance, humiliation and rejection. It was this epic journey, not the birth or Al-Mustafa SallAllahu alaihi wassalam, nor the beginning of his Prophethood that established the beginning of the Muslim era. Blessed is `Umar ibn Al-Khattab RadhiAllahu anhu, the second rightly guided caliph, who sixteen years after the Hijrah, formalized the Islamic lunar calendar beginning with this event. It was the arduous flight of two blessed "fugitives" that heralded the new beginning of the most glorious and pristine of religions, which rapidly illuminated the whole world with Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala’s Divine Commands. The light of this heritage never dims. How much effort do we make to keep this light burning in our hearts? How much do we seek sanctuary in the One by working on just one character trait that hinders the potential lighting of our souls?

Following Allah Ta’ala’s Will, totally submissive to His Hikmah and His Knowledge, the travellers zigzagged across unfamiliar territory from Makkah to Yathrib.
The green line indicates the common caravan route, while the red shows the divergent path chosen for their flight.
How willing are we to criss-cross boundaries of hardship and explore new aspects of instilling the Deen into our everyday journey? To traverse our individual "mountains" and "deserts" in order to reach the goal of radiance in what has been prescribed for us?

It was in the summer months, the unrelenting sun a daily companion, along with all the hazards of the ruthless terrain. There was no better provision, nor weapons than the prayers of the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wassalam as they wound their way northward:

My Lord, let me enter by the entry of truth and let me exit by the exit of truth. And grant me authority from You to help. (17:80)

Rasulullah SallAllahu alaihi wassalam knew that for The Message to reveal its hidden truth, and to reach the peak of achievement, was possible only by turning and imploring the Creator, seeking His support and favour, with his entire being.

For the One Who prescribed the Qur’an for you will surely bring you home once more. (28:85) was revealed as they journeyed.

How often do we voice our concerns in spreading and propagating The Message, so that we too will be assured of being guided "home once more"? Maybe we face difficulties, but then the actual Hijrah as the Qur’an narrates it is that of doing what is difficult in a disciplined, faithful, dedicated, cautious, sincere and honest manner:

I am never unmindful of the work of a worker among you, male or female, You are from each other. So for those who emigrated or were driven from their homes or suffered harm for My sake, or fought or were killed, I will efface their evils and admit them to gardens below which rivers flow, as a reward from the presence of Allah. And the finest reward is in the presence of Allah. (3:195)

On the twelfth day of travel, the midday sun at its zenith, they crossed the blacked Harra, the residue of ancient volcanic activity. The grey-green vegetation of palm groves not only coloured the landscape but also their hearts, recalling the description known to the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wassalam, "the well watered land between two tracts of black stone." Thirteen years of oppression, torture and condemnation finally ended at this Mubarak place, Quba, on the outskirts of what was to become the City of Light.

This present day view of Masjid Quba, nestled amongst the date palms, transports us back to that momentous midday. SubhanAllah!
When the crowd gathered to catch a glimpse, many were unable to distinguish Abu Bakr RadhiAllahu anhu from the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wassalam. It was not until Abu Bakr RadhiAllahu anhu held his garment to shade the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wassalam that they then realized who he was. SubhanAllah! Imagine the sight, the excitement, the joy, THE LIGHT!

As we embrace this new Islamic year, may we too make a "flight to light", a brave and courageous migration of the heart to Allah Ta’ala, confronting the hidden darkness silently lurking where luminosity should dwell. The greater the Iman, the brighter the light, the sweeter the taste.

May we all inwardly reflect upon the deeper significance of the Hijrah of the Bringer of Light, the Light of Light, and the Best of Creation SallAllahu alaihi wassalam.

May the very comforting sentiments from our Beloved Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wassalam’s lips to Abu Bakr RadhiAllahu anhu: “What do you think of two when Allah is their third?” be respite enough in our challenge while striving towards the light, echoing throughout the Ummah, What do you think of a people when Allah is with them?

"O the Full Moon rose over us

From the Valley of Wada`

And we owe it to show gratefulness

Where the call is to Allah."
