Fazilat of Laylatul Qadr

The month of Ramadan is a speacial month in the Islamic calendar. This is the month that the Holy Qur’an was revealed to Prophet Muhammad pbuh.
Among the nights of Ramadan is a very special night.

The night of Laylatul Qadr or else The Night of Power.

Allah swt tells us in the Holy Qur’an , surah 97

97:1 Indeed, We sent the Qur’an down during the Night of Decree.
97:2 and what make you know what is the night of Decree?

97.3 The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months.

97.4 The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter.

97.5 Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.

Indeed Laylatul Qadr is a very blessed night. And any one that misses it, has missed out a great deal. Every one of us should seek Laylatul Qadr in the last ten days of Ramadan and we should spent those nights in increased prayer.

Praying Qiyaam

It is recommended to make a long Qiyaam prayer during the nights on which Laylat ul-Qadr could fall.

“Whoever stands (in qiyaam) in Laylat ul-Qadr [and it is facilitated for him] out of faith and expectation (of Allah’s reward), will have all of his previous sins forgiven.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Reading the Holy Qur’an

We should make a special effort to read the Holy Qur’an. What is also important is not only how many pages we read each day but with how much understanding we read it and how we intend to implement what we understand in our life.

Making Dua

We should make extensive supplications on the nights that Laylatul qadr is likely to fall.

When Aisha( ra) asked the Prophet (pbuh) of Allah (swt):

“O Messenger of Allah! If I knew which night is Laylat ul-Qadr, what should I say during it?” He instructed her to say:

“Allahumma innaka `afuwwun tuh.ibbul `afwa fa`fu `annee – O Allah! You are forgiving, and you love forgiveness. So forgive me.” [Recorded by Ahmad, Ibn Majah, and at-Tirmithi.]

We should spent minimal time in our wordly pleasures

We should strive to spend best part on the day and a good part of the night in prayer, supplication, dikr ,abadoning our TV sets, Ipods, laptops . We should also encourage our own families and brothers and sisters in Islam to do the same.

I will ask this question: ” Do you know of anybody who passed away since last Ramadan?” The answer is more likely a yes.

So as this might be our last Ramadan. If so should we not be seeking Laylatul Qadr? If we meet Laylatul Qadr Insha Allah , with Allah’s mercy we might get all our sins forgiveness and our status elevated in next life. Please do not miss out.
